INFN Rome Three: Educational and Outreach
Contact person: Enrico Bernieri
The “Third Mission”
Beside the institutional objective of the research, the INFN also pursues the so-called “third mission”, devoted to promote the direct application, enhancement and use of scientific knowledge, in order to contribute to the social, cultural and economic improvement of the society.
This activity, in its cultural-educational side, corresponds to what in English is called Science Outreach (or Education and Public Outreach, or, more simply, Public Outreach) and aims to raise awareness and to improve understanding of science, also providing educational informal contributions.
This activity is carried both centrally (http://home.infn.it/it/comunicazione) and locally, in the National Laboratories and the INFN Sections.
In this perspective, our INFN Section is committed to communicate and disseminate the knowledge through a direct relationship with the land and all its actors: schools, teachers and the general public.
This commitment corresponds to various activities:
the European Researchers’ Night, promoted by the European Commission, which takes place every year on the last Friday of September “La Fisica incontra la Città”, a series of conferences for the public, on a monthly basis, the “Masterclass” in particle physics, many Science evening events for audiences of all ages and Alternating School-Work projects, a program of the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research.
2018 February 07: La Fisica Incontra la Città: Il futuro della fisica delle alte energie (The future of the high energy physics), Michelangelo Mangano CERN, Ginevra (Conference, in italian).
Published the program of the new cycle (2018) of Conferences
