The Department of Mathematics and Physics Roma Tre University and INFN Sezione Roma Tre are actually present in CHNet with Surface Laboratory Roma Tre . CHNet is the INFN network that integrates fifteen national facilities involved in the Cultural Heritage Science. Several high value analytical techniques are present in this laboratory network constituting an advanced multidisciplinary community of researchers. The research activity of Surface Chemistry group in Roma Tre is aimed to the surface characterization by using Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) technique. SIMS is the most sensitive surface analysis technique (ppb), capable of sub-nanometer depth resolution and a lateral resolution of 60 nm. SIMS can be used to measure all elements and isotopes in the periodic table. In the area of cultural heritage, SIMS has been applied to a wide range of problems including technology and authenticity, origin and provenance, degradation processes, such as corrosion and weathering, and conservation.
